Action in Texas to stop Trans Texas Corridor for good!

Property rights activists in Texas need your help to stop the TTC and to kill a slew of government sanctioned monopolies called Public/Private Partnerships. The following alert was issued by Terri Hall of Texas Turf. Call Texas Legislators and help these patriots!

BILL ALERT

TRICKY: VOTE TO END DIVERSIONS WILL TRIGGER PASSAGE OF MENU OF NEW TAXES

The Texas Senate continues to IGNORE Texans' opposition and ram through bills that abuse the taxpayer. Just days ago, the Senate passed the tax-everything-that-moves "local option" tax bill, SB 855, despite Constitutional issues, which would allow a litany of new LOCAL taxes to be levied to pay for roads (tax for every mile you drive, congestion tax, vehicle sales tax, registration tax, driver's license tax, new resident tax, sales tax hike, tax on a parking space, and the list goes on!).

It also passed a proposed Constitutional Amendment (SJR 9) that ties ENDING gas tax diversions to enacting SB 855! So if Texans vote to finally END siphoning-off gas taxes to non-transportation uses, like tourism promotion and DPS, they will also be voting to enact a MENU of NEW LOCAL TAXES (with NO END to additional toll taxes in sight either).

Now these bills are in committee in the Texas House. The House bill number is HB 9. After 7 hours of testimony by local government officials from all the major metro areas but Houston, Chamber of Commerce spokespeople, and road lobbyists, ordinary citizens finally had their say on this taxation free-for-all, HB 9. We had several dozen supporters show-up to testify or register their opinion on these bills (we lost count)!

Other bills...
HB 2929 (we oppose this one that would END the private toll moratorium on public private partnerships, PPPs, and sell our highways to the highest bidder).

Two good bills...HB 11 would repeal the Trans Texas Corridor and HB 13 would stop tolls on existing roads (a DOUBLE TAX). Not one person testified in opposition to these two fantastic bills. However, now they need to come out of committee and to the floor for a vote.

ACTION ITEM!

Continue to contact the House Transportation Committee and tell them to:
- vote NO on HB 9, NO on HB 2929,
- vote YES on HB 11 and HB 13.
